The objective is not to collect more data simply because more data are available. More measurement is not automatically better management. The objective is to determine which information deserves continued attention, establish meaningful reference points, and evaluate how those variables change over time.
As the longitudinal record develops, physicians can distinguish what is stable from what is changing, what responded from what did not, and where additional attention may be warranted. Previous measurements provide context for current measurements, and current measurements establish new reference points for what follows.
